Students!

Making the most of your tutoring session

  • Read the assignment - or if it is very difficult, try to read it.
  • Bring the assignment and course syllabus with you so the tutor can see them.
  • Do your homework or exercise - or if it is very difficult, start it.
  • Be ready to tell the tutor the one main thing you would like help with.

Tutors

Our tutors are instructed to help you become more independent in your learning. They are not permitted to do any of your work for you, including reading to you, suggesting words to use in a paper, doing your assignment, or teaching you the content because you have been absent.

If you have been absent

  1. Talk with your instructor during office hours.
  2. Get notes from a classmate.
  3. Do the reading.
  4. Then come see a tutor.

Benefits of tutors

  • Offer study tips
  • Give feedback on a paper
  • Review concepts, types of problems, and rules
  • Offer encouragement
  • Reinforce what you do know
  • Help you see the overall system
  • Help you follow the directions
  • Help you use your textbook, syllabus, and materials more effectively
  • Offer additional resources that we have available on campus
