Program description

  • Learn about yourself and the world around you!
  • Learn about the process of studying the natural world!
  • Develop a better understanding of current topics in the news, e.g. global warming, invasive species, medical breakthroughs, endangered species, etc.
  • Work with biologists from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, who will help you acquire foundational knowledge in a variety of subjects such as ecology, evolution, microbiology, zoology, botany, human anatomy & physiology.
  • Satisfy Natural Science and People and the Environment transfer curriculum goals.
  • Complete the introductory courses required for an array of biology-related majors at four-year colleges or universities.
  • Take the same courses offered during the first two years at a four-year university, but have them taught by faculty rather than teaching assistants.
  • Satisfy requirements for entry into, or completion of, a variety of professional programs, including Dental Hygiene, Investigative Sciences in Law Enforcement, Law Enforcement, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Orthotic Technology, Prosthetic Technology, and Radiologic Technology.

Program points of pride

  • A new Science/Library Building with state of the art facilities is scheduled to open in fall 2008.
  • The Wood Duck Walking Trail through the wooded natural area adjacent to campus provides a place for nature study and field projects.
  • Our department is growing in student population, in faculty, and in course offerings. New course offerings include Introduction to Forensic Biology and Biology of Women.
  • We offer a variety of flexible course options, including online, evening, and Saturday courses.
