Cosmetology

Program description

Century's Cosmetology program teaches you both the theory and the practice of hair, skin and nail care. We offer an AAS Degree and diploma in Cosmetology, and a Certificate in Nail Care Technician.

Our program:

  • provides hands-on opportunities to practice techniques on other students, models or mannequins prior to gaining experience with clients in Century's own cosmetology salon.

  • is highly regarded by local beauty salons as a school that teaches the basics, enabling you to succeed in the cosmetology industry.

In addition, Century faculty members work closely with you to develop a schedule customized to your needs, whether full-time or part-time.

Preparation for Licensure

Following completion of the program, you'll be prepared for the state written exam and skills certification required by the Minnesota Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners for licensure.

Licensure offers a wide variety of career opportunities as a stylist, salon owner, skin care technician, nail care technician and manufacturing or field representative.

Program points of pride

Service learning and community partnerships

Since Service Learning began in 2006, our students have offered complimentary cosmetology services to interested residents in local homeless shelters and abused women's shelters.

In fall 2006, Century's Cosmetology students participated in SkillsUSA, a national organization focusing on leadership and industry standards.

In 2007, through a partnership with the St. Paul Winter Carnival Visiting Ambassador Committee, Century's Cosmetology students were selected to do hair, make-up and nails for forty visiting royalty.

We offer special packages of services for children and teens 17 and under for special events such as birthdays. Our package includes hairstyle, make-up, and nail polish.

Our Cosmetology department provided a fun learning opportunity for the children in Century's Busy Bees Day Care Center. The children received a special package of services from the cosmetology students, and experienced a beauty salon in action.

Each semester, Cosmetology program faculty and staff sponsor a fundraiser to support the John Dalton Scholarship for Century's cosmetology students.
