Xochitl Grant
Hi! My name is Xochitl Grant. You can call me Xochitl (So-chil) or Ms. Grant. I've been teaching ESOL classes since 1984. I taught at the University of Minnesota until 2003, and I came to Century College in the fall of 2003. I really enjoy teaching non-native speakers of English. My students have taught me a lot about life and what it's like to live, study, and work in a foreign country. I have the greatest admiration for them and their many accomplishments. I hope to help each of your improve your English skills to enable you to fulfill your dreams for college or simply to be able to better communicate in this crazy language. I look forward to meeting you!
Welcome to ESOL at Century. I am proud to say that I have been part of the ESOL program at Century since 1990. We have seen many changes during the years, including changing from quarters to semesters, and the merger of Northeast Metro Technical College (the East Campus) with Lakewood Community College (the West Campus) to form CCTC.
I have been in education all my life. After college, I joined the U.S. Peace Corps. I served as a home extension agent in Jamaica. Upon to returning to MN, I taught Home Economics in the White Bear Lake and Chisago Lakes Schools. As my sons got older, I changed my major and became an ESL teacher. I began my ESL career at NE Metro, working just a couple hours a week with a few students. It has been fun to watch our department grow and welcome students from approximately forty countries. I enjoy teaching all of the areas of ESL, but my greatest pleasure comes from getting to know my students. I am not only involved in ESOL at work, but also in my family. Many of us enjoy communicating in our second language. In addition, I often need to use my second language as I work with Central American students whom we sponsor through our education foundation. Using my second language reminds me how dedicated and brave my ESOL students are as they study in English and work to accomplish their dreams. Enjoy you time with us at Century. We are here to help you be successful. Muriel Stoltzman
