Program points of pride

In 2002, Century's highly-respected Kitchen & Bath Design program was accredited by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA).

The KBD program became the first program at Century College to be offered online. KBD Online students are from all over the United States and other countries.

Student points of pride

Since our program began in fall 2001, many of our students have competed in the Student Design Competition and placed on a national level.

Following graduation, 95% of Century graduates have taken and passed the first level "Associate of Kitchen & Bath Design" certification exam. Certification exams are held nationwide in March and September.

Most of Century's KBD students attend the annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), held in either Chicago or Atlanta. KBIS enables students to:

  • see thousands of products and new product proto-types
  • attend workshops and seminars with key industry leaders
  • meet potential employers from all parts of the world.

KBIS is an optional activity for the students; however, attendance is highly encouraged.

Since 2005, Century's KBD students participate in a service-learning project by designing a kitchen for Homeward Bound, a non-profit organization. This service-learning project is incorporated into the basic KBD course as a final project. Once the design has been selected by Homeward Bound, the demotion, building of cabinetry and install are completed by students from the Carpentry and Cabinetry program at St. Paul College.

Certification

Upon completion of the 30 semester credits,(including 5 credits of internship), Century's students are awarded a Certificate in Kitchen & Bath Design.

In addition, verification of Century students' certificate awards are sent to NKBA, and each graduate then receives a Certificate of Completion from an accredited NKBA Program.

Occupational trends

Kitchen & Bath Design is a multi-billion dollar industry. Areas of employment for new graduates may include:

  • drafting
  • CAD work
  • kitchen or bath design
  • project management, which includes completing specifications and ordering, working products such as cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, surfacing materials, and working with builders and remodelers.

Most graduates start between $15-25.00 per hour. Typical firms employing interns and/or graduates include home improvement stores, builders, remodelers, appliances dealers, and kitchen and/or bath design specialists firms.

Placement for Century program graduates to date has been very successful.
