Inver Hills-Century Colleges Associate
Degree Nursing Program

Caring is a central theme that guides the Nursing Program at Century College. We value health and healing, and focus on educating and training you to become a holistic and competent nurse.

Graduates of our program are prepared to begin an exciting career that offers rewards, as well opportunities to give back to others. Nursing is a growing profession with multi-faceted roles and various job options. At Century, you'll have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.

Our program -- offered in conjunction with Inver Hills Community College -- gives you the option to apply to one college or the other (classes are held on the campus where you enroll). Nursing faculty teach on both campuses, offering a broad range of nursing expertise. In the program, you'll learn about:

  • Preventative health care and wellness
  • Care for acute and chronic illness
  • Being a part of the health care provider team

Clinical nursing experiences offer diverse opportunities in a variety of health care settings, including:

  • medical/surgical
  • maternal-child
  • pediatric
  • geriatric
  • preceptorship experiences

Accreditation

The Century Nursing Program is approved by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

In fact, the NLNAC noted our faculty, vast clinical sites, and access to technology as strengths of the nursing program.

Program tracks

Graduates of our nursing program are awarded an associate in science degree in nursing and are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN and meet the Minnesota State Board of Nursing requirements for licensure.

Program benefits

  • Of the Inver Hills-Century nursing graduates who took the RN-NCLEX® exam in Minnesota in 2008, 85.27 percent passed the exam on the first attempt. The average passing rate in 2008 for all Minnesota associate degree nursing graduates taking the exam was 82.38 percent on the first attempt.
  • With the help of community support, we have expanded our nursing program to graduate up to 280 students per year, to meet the needs of students and health care institutions.
  • We offer the only Paramedic to AD Nursing mobility program in the state of Minnesota.
  • We value and support diversity and are committed to the recruitment and retention of diverse students.
  • All nursing courses are web supplemented.
  • Graduates consistently report overall satisfaction with the nursing program on exit evaluations.

Scholarships

Through the Century College Foundation, five nursing scholarships are awarded each year for students.

Occupational trends

NurseWeek.com reports that “Nurses are No.1 for the second consecutive year in a Gallup survey of the top 10 professions that the public rates as "very high" or "high" in honesty and ethics.” Nursing continues to be a high demand and flexible career path that allows students opportunity to work in a variety of settings.
