Program description
Caring is a central theme that guides the Nursing Program at Century College. We value health and healing to and focus on educating and training you to become a holistic and competent nurse.
Graduates of our program are prepared to begin an exciting career that offers rewards, as well opportunities to give back to others. Nursing is a growing profession with multi-faceted roles and various job options. Here you'll have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
The program -- offered in conjunction with Inver Hills Community College -- gives you the option to apply to one college or the other (classes are held on the campus where you enroll). Nursing faculty teach on both campuses, offering you a broad range of nursing expertise. In the program, you'll learn about:
- Preventative health care and wellness
- Care for acute and chronic illness
- Being a part of the health care provider team
- How to think critically when working with individuals of all ages
Clinical nursing experiences offer you diverse opportunities in medical/surgical, maternal-child, pediatric, geriatric, and preceptorship experiences in a variety of health care settings.

Program points of pride
- The Century Nursing Program has been in existence since 1974.
- Of the Inver Hills-Century nursing graduates who took the RN-NCLEX® exam in Minnesota in 2006, 89 percent passed the exam on the first attempt. The average passing rate in 2006 for all Minnesota associate degree nursing graduates taking the exam was 87.4 percent on the first attempt.
- With the help of community support, we have expanded our nursing program to graduate 220 students per year, to meet the needs of students and health care institutions.
- We are starting the first Paramedic to RN accelerated program in the state of Minnesota in the summer of 2007.
- We value and support diversity and are committed to the recruitment and retention of diverse students.
- Our expansive, new Nursing Learning Resource Center opened in the fall of 2006.
- All nursing courses are web supplemented.
- Century College Foundation offers five nursing scholarships each year for nursing students.
- Graduates consistently report overall satisfaction with the nursing program on exit evaluations.
- Our accrediting body (NLNAC) noted our faculty, vast clinical sites, and access to technology as strengths of the nursing program.

- Graduates have been recognized as ‘One of Our Best' by HealthEast.
- Nursing students receive scholarships each year.
- Century students are represented at annual nursing conferences, including the Holistic Nursing Conference.
- Students are active with the Century College Nursing Club.
- During the final semester, students look forward to the preceptorship experience in areas of interest.
- Select students participate in honors coursework.
Awards
Graduates of the nursing program are awarded an associate in science degree in nursing and are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN and meet the Minnesota State Board of Nursing requirements for licensure.

- Basic RN
- LPN to RN
- Paramedic to RN
