Radiologic Technology Program

Program description

The Radiologic Technology Program at Century College prepares you to work in a patient care setting providing diagnostic medical images using radiation for the diagnosis of human diseases and disorders. According to U.S. Department of Labor, job opportunities in radiologic technology are expected to be favorable and employment is expected to increase 18 to 26 percent through the year 2014.

The purpose of the radiography program is to educate clinically competent, entry-level graduates capable of practicing independent judgment in performing radiographic procedures that meet the healthcare needs of the community.

Goal #1: Graduate entry-level radiographers to meet the needs of the health care community.

Goal #2: Prepare graduate entry-level radiographers competent to perform quality radiographic procedures with minimal radiation exposure while demonstrating a professional concern for patients.

This challenging allied health two-year associate of applied science degree will give you the skills and knowledge to assist radiologists in obtaining digital images using the latest medical computer imaging systems. It will also prepare you work in related imaging fields and interact with patients in a caring and compassionate way.

Upon graduation you are eligible to take a national certification examination, which will enable you to work nationwide in various settings: major medical centers, hospital, outpatient facilities and private physician offices.

Occupational trends

According to US Department of Labor “job opportunities are expected to be favorable and employment is expected to increase 18- 26% through 2014”. Based on 2005 data the average U.S. annual salary for radiologic technologists is $45,950.

According to ISeek Careers the median pay per hour for Minnesota radiologic technologists is $24.10 and the job outlook is “very good”.

Financial aid and scholarships

Students are eligible for financial aid application through the College and scholarships offered by the College's Foundation Office.

The national radiologic technology professional organization, The American Society of Radiologic Technologists, offers several student scholarships.
