About the Program

Century’s comprehensive program offers you an overview of the profession, from accounting practice fundamentals to advanced accounting principles. It offers the opportunity to study the basics of accounting or continue on and study more advanced accounting principles. Century’s accounting program prepares you for a variety of positions, from an entry-level job as a clerk to a manager in an accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll department. This is important because professionals who have the skills and abilities to do a wider range of bookkeeping and accounting activities will be in greater demand than specialized clerks.

Students of Century’s Accounting program will:

  • Analyze and interpret key financial data to guide sound fiscal management
  • Create unique business solutions using advanced software and effective organizational techniques
  • Engage powerful business applications and simulations while applying essential strategies in both personal and corporate environments

This degree is designed to prepare the student for entry-level positions ranging from management of accounts payable and accounts receivable to a position that requires the professional skills to be a full charge accountant. The second year of the program will emphasize research of financial and managerial accounting topics, the development of professional contracts, and the writing of professional reports. The graduate will find employment opportunities in profit and non-profit entities.

Accounting Transfer Pathway AS Degree

The Accounting Transfer Pathway AS degree offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an associate degree whose course credits will directly transfer to designated Accounting bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The entire curriculum has been carefully designed so that you can complete a specific associate degree at a Minnesota State College and transfer to a Minnesota State University to earn a bachelor’s degree. Transfer Pathways can be a great resource for saving time and money as you work toward graduation.

Minnesota State universities include Bemidji State University, Metropolitan State University, Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University, Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

Transfer Pathway degrees may transfer to colleges and universities outside of the Minnesota State system, such as private and out-of-state schools. It is highly recommended that students interested in this possibility contact their intended transfer school, advisor/counselor, and program instructors for academic planning assistance.
