Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications

Delivery–Orthotic and Prosthetic Fitter AAS degree: Morning or afternoon classes, M-F.
Start–Orthotic and Prosthetic Fitter AAS degree courses: Fall, Spring, or Summer; Full- or Part-Time
Orthotic and Prosthetic Fitter — Associate in Applied Science Degree (60 credits)

Start–Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications Diploma: Fall start only; Full-Time
Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications — Diploma (71 credits)

Prerequisite and General Education/MnTC courses are available in a mix of daytime, evening, and online classes; Fall, Spring, and Summer; Full- or Part-Time.

About the Program


Admission into the O & P Fitter AAS degree program requires contact with the program director and may involve a wait list procedure. Students who earn the Orthotic and Prosthetic Fitter Associate in Applied Science degree will meet the requirements to be employed as an Orthotic Fitter.

Admission to the OPCA Diploma program requires a special application and is highly competitive. The college may not be able to accept all applicants that meet the minimum admission standards. See Admissions, Counseling, or the college website for the application booklet and additional information. Students who earn the Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications Diploma will meet the requirements to be employed as an Orthotic/Prosthetic Assistant or enter a Baccalaureate degree or a Master’s degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Application Requirements


Minnesota Department of Health requires any individual having contact with patients to complete a background study prior to starting the clinical experience. An individual may be disqualified from having patient contact and would not be permitted to participate in the clinical experience. Student may contact the Minnesota Department of Human Service with specific questions: 651.431.2000.

Additional Requirements


Additional Program Prerequisites or the AAS degree:
Assessment score placement in RDNG 0090 or above or completion of RDNG 0080 with a grade of C or higher and assessment score placement in ENGL 0090 or above or completion of ENGL 0080 with a grade of C or higher. Once full, student placed on wait list.

Additional Program Prerequisites for the Diploma:
Orthotic and Prosthetic Fitter AAS OR equivalent skills through work experience in the field assessed by program coordinator OR instructor consent. Assessment score placement in RDNG 1000 or completion of RDNG 0090 with a grade of C or higher and assessment score placement in ENGL 1021 or completion of ENGL 0090 with a grade of C or higher. Special application required, which includes completion of BIOL 1020 and PHYS 1020.
