Tuition-Free Program

With funding from the Kopp Family Foundation, Century College offers an innovative program that makes the first two years of college available tuition-free for students with demonstrated financial need. Students graduating this spring from the following St. Paul high schools may be eligible:

  • White Bear Lake High School
  • Arlington High School
  • Johnson High
  • Como Park High
  • Harding High
  • North St. Paul High School

Tuition-free program services

Century's tuition-free program offers college-bound students three services:

  1. Tuition-free attendance at Century for students demonstrating financial need and taking a minimum of 12 credits per term.
  2. College advising. This includes financial aid sessions, assessment testing and educational and career planning.
  3. Retention/support services. This includes expanded academic support services in the first semester and Tuition-Free Program activities.

The tuition-free program student

Century's Tuition-Free Program provides an opportunity to many students who might not otherwise be able to go on to higher education. Students must be motivated and disciplined. Tuition-Free students are ACTIVE students who are pursuing the support, guidance, and connections to the college necessary to succeed.

Program requirements

Tuition-Free program students must:

  1. Take at least 12 credits a semester.
  2. Sign up for student support services: TEAM or SSS/Trio.
  3. Stay in good academic standing.
  4. Be active in Tuition-free program activities.

Application requirements

Interested applicants must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete a Tuition-free program application, including a 250-word essay. Please submit essay on a separate sheet.
  2. Complete application for admission to Century College.
  3. Complete the online application for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Electronic applications are preferred. However, paper applications for financial aid are available.

  4. Attach a complete high school transcript. (If applicable, attach all other transcripts received from other colleges or universities).
  5. Complete Century's Assessment testing.
  6. Attend student orientation and register for at least 12 credits.

Deadlines

The priority deadline is May 1, 2008, but applications received on or before June 1, 2008 will be considered, if funding permits.

Applicants must also apply for admission to Century College by the same deadlines. The Tuition-Free Program will support as many students as possible based on the student need and funds available for the program.

Scholarship renewal

The scholarship is renewable for a second year provided the student meets the College's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy guidelines for both academics and financial aid and funds are available.

Students must indicate their interest in renewing the scholarship and must reapply for financial aid by June 1, 2009.

Notification date

Recipients of the Tuition-Free scholarship will be notified by mail on or before July 1, 2008.
