Information Regarding Century College's Conversion to Microsoft

Saving the details of your Rules and Filters

Information Technology will not be able to migrate your GroupWise Rules or Filters to Outlook. However, you can recreate them in Outlook. To make that as painless as possible, IT suggests you print out copies of your Rules and Filters before the migration and use them as guides for building the new versions in Outlook.

To print a copy of either a Rule or a Filter, you can use a built-in Windows function known as a "Screen Shot," also known as a "Print Screen." This is a quick and simple process.

First have both GroupWise and Word open.

In GroupWise, open the Rule or Filter you'd like to save.

Next, press the ALT and PrtScn keys simultaneously.

Then, flip over to Word, and select Paste. This will move the image of your GroupWise Rule from the Windows Clipboard into the Microsoft Word document. It will look like a Screen Shot.

If you have more Rules or Filters to document, prepare your Word document first. Save the Word file. Then select Control+End to move your cursor to the bottom of the page. Flip back into GroupWise, select the Rule or Filter, copy the image to the Windows Clipboard by selecting ALT+PrtSCN, and move back to Word. Select Paste to insert the latest image into the document. Repeat until all Rules or Filters are documented. (There are fancier ways to do this, but this will suffice for documenting your Rules or Filters.)

Finally, save the Word one last time. Keep them handy when you are tailoring Outlook to meet your needs, and use the file as a reference.
