  • The Power of You program is a financial and academic support program for eligible incoming Century College students. There is a Power of You program offered at Minneapolis College and Saint Paul College too.

    The program provides gap-funds that cover the cost of tuition and fees for the first two years or up to 72 enrolled credits at Century College

    Power of You supports as many eligible students as possible based on student need and funds available for the program. Advising and support services will be provided to help students succeed in college.

Eligibility

  • To qualify for the Power of YOU program at Century College, you must:

    • Qualify for federal financial aid
    • Not exceed the family adjusted gross income cap of $75,000
    • Graduate from one of the following schools in Spring 2019:
      • Irondale High School
      • North High School (North St. Paul)
      • Mounds View High School
      • White Bear Lake High School
      • Tartan High School

    Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. All completed applications will be reviewed. Notifications will be sent out by July 2020.

Power of You Participant Requirements

All Power of You Program participants must:

  • Attend the Power of You Summer Kick-Off Event (August).
  • Maintain a full-time status (12-15 credits) each semester. Flexibility can be provided if a student is expected to graduate soon.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements every semester (2.0 minimum GPA and 67% completion rate).
  • Meet with POY coordinator two times per semester.
  • Attend fall and spring progam meetings.
  • Attend one Power of You workshops and/or other academic workshops per semester.
  • Attend two hours of student time every week at designated academic support centers on campus.
  • Renew the financial aid application (FAFSA) by March 30 every single year.
  • Communicate with the program staff as needed to ensure their academic success.

Q: What is the Power of You Program at Century College?
A: The Power of YOU program is designed for eligible students to attend college at no cost for two years or up to 72 credits at Century College. The Power of You provides gap-funding to cover tuition costs after financial aid has been applied. The program supports as many eligible students as possible based on student need and funds available for the program. Advising and support services will also be provided to help students succeed in college. Both Minneapolis College and St. Paul College has a Power of You program. Eligibility requirements for each Power of You Program may differ.

Q: What criteria do students need to meet in order to be eligible to apply for the Power of You program at Century College?
A: All applicants must:

Q: If I was a Power of You participant at St. Paul College or Minneapolis College, am I automatically eligible for the Power of You Program at Century College if I transfer there?
A: Unfortunately, no. Each Power of You institution has different eligibility requirements and cannot accept transfers into the program. Specific requirements for Century College’s Power of You Program is located in the criteria above (2nd question).

Q: If I obtain a GED (General Education Diploma/ high school diploma equivalency) am I eligible for the Power of You program?
A: No. At the time of your application you must be in your senior year of high school and be expecting to receive your diploma.

Q: If my high school is not listed as one of the participating Power of You high schools for Century College, may I still apply?
A: No. You must be a graduate from one of the following schools in Spring 2020 to apply:

  • Irondale High School
  • North High School (North St. Paul)
  • Mounds View High School
  • White Bear Lake High School
  • Tartan High School

Q: Do I have to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the Power of You Deadline (May 15, 2020)?
A: Yes. Eligibility for the Power of You requires you to submit and complete the FAFSA process by the application deadline.

Q: If I meet all the eligibility requirements and submit all application materials by the deadline, am I automatically accepted into the program?
A: No. If you meet the eligibility requirements and complete the application steps by the deadline, your application will be reviewed and considered for participation in the Power of You. The Power of You is a need based program that uses the financial aid process to identify student need. We fund the students who have the highest need first. We are committed to funding as many applicants as possible based on the availability of funding each year.

Q: How will I know if I have been accepted into the program?
A: All applicants will receive an electronic notification to the email that the student indicated on their Power of You application. Notifications will be sent out in late June/early July of each year. Specific details will be sent out to all applicants once the deadline have passed. It is important that the student indicate an active email in their Power of You application.

Q: Does the Power of YOU Program pay for anything more than tuition?
A: The Power of You Program offers a gap-funded scholarship to each participant. The program is committed to paying for any remaining tuition and mandatory fees not covered by the student’s financial aid package (state and federal grants). It does not cover books, living expenses or transportation. It also does not cover any tuition expenses due to withdrawn classes made by the student and/or a faculty member.  

Q: Will the Power of You Program offer anything other than financial assistance with tuition and fees?
A: The program will offer an array of services to enable students to achieve their academic and career goals. Some of the services include individualized academic advising, career development services, study skills, four year college tours and transfer workshops, field trips, learning communities and social and cultural activities.

Q: How does the POY gap-funding work?
A: The POY gap-funding works this way:

  • Grants from your financial aid will automatically be applied to your tuition and fees.
  • If you do no have enough in grants to cover your tuition, POY will cover the difference of what's left.
  • You do not need to take our any loans to pay for your tuition.
  • We do not cover the cost of your books.

  1. Apply to the Power of YOU program
    The Power of YOU Application is now available. The applicaiton deadline will be Friday, May 15, 2020. Please contact the Power of You Program Coordinator at poy@century.edu or 651-773-1793 with questions.
     
  2. Apply to Century College
     
  3. Complete the Financial Aid process
    Submit the 2019-2020 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) using Century College FAFSA school code: 010546.
     
  4. Take the ACCUPLACER Test
    Prior to Power of YOU acceptance, you must complete Course Placement Testing. You will receive details on Course Placement Testing via email following the submission of the application.
