Foundation Scholarship Opportunities

The Century College Foundation offers over 100 scholarships annually. Students attending Century College can apply at the beginning of the Spring semester to receive a scholarship for the following Fall and Spring semesters. Funded through contributions from alumni, faculty and staff, community members, and corporations, the Century College Foundation awards scholarships totaling more than $300,000.

AAUW Northeast Metro Branch Nancy Jo Hendrickson Legacy

Portrait of Nancy Jo Legacy AAUW (American Association of University Women) is an organization that has promoted higher education for women since 1881. The AAUW Northeast Metro Branch Nancy Jo Hendrickson Legacy Scholarship honors a member whose lifelong interest was in furthering education and opportunities for girls and women. To encourage a student to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of a two-year degree program at Century College.

Abby Kay Lydon Memorial Scholarship

Portrait of Abby Kay Lydon Abby was a remarkable young woman who made a difference in the lives of others. She battled health issues but found joy in helping others. A graduate of White Bear Lake Area High School, she continued to college even though she faced barriers. In her brief life, she touched and enriched many lives. Her family and friends support this scholarship to honor her life and empower others to carry on her legacy of helping. It is the hope that this scholarship will enable others to follow her example.

Addie Williams Adult

To encourage education for adults age 30 or older who have demonstrated aptitude and desire for higher education, career development, life enrichment, and/or self-sufficiency. This is in honor of Addie Williams, who pursued her college degree later in life.

Al Aspelund Memorial Scholarship

Portrait of Al Aspelund To encourage and support the education and career goals of highly motivated Century College students in need who are studying Accounting. If no accounting majors apply, then any Business, Marketing or Office Technology majors.

Alumni Legacy

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship was established in 2009 by the Alumni Association Board of Directors to attract students who, through family and relationships, have strong connections to the college and who will likely contribute to the development of the college’s relationship with its alumni long-term.

This scholarship was established by an alumnus of Lakewood College to encourage and support students with financial needs pursuing a Century Nursing Degree.

The Kramer Berg American Legion Scholarship is given to encourage and support a Century College student who is a veteran of the US Armed Forces.

Andrew S. Nesset Memorial Scholarship

Portrait of Andrew Nesset To support currently enrolled students who have demonstrated aptitude and a strong desire to continue their education at Century but are challenged by life’s circumstances or lack the resources necessary to access higher education.

Andrew S. Nesset worked for over 20 years at Century College, starting as an adjunct faculty member in the English Department and eventually becoming an academic dean. Andrew became known as an invaluable, dependable, and constantly encouraging resource.

Chris P. Boosalis O&P

To provide a scholarship to support the educational goals of O&P students who are seeking a Century degree. Chris P. Boosalis is a Century alum and has dedicated his career to serving people with limb loss in the Twin Cities since 1986. In 2003, he formed his own company, and eventually, his company joined Twin Cities Orthopedics. “It is easy to get excited about stories of amputees climbing mountains and winning races, but you have to walk before you can run. My hope is for future prosthetists and orthotics to put the patients first and let the business take care of itself.”

Compassionate Care Nursing

In the last months of his life, our dad was cared for by compassionate, skilled nurses and aides. Rather than merely performing their duties toward him, the best of them treated him with affection, dignity, and kindness. Ted’s sons, Steve and Dave, hope to aid a student with these qualities as they work toward a nursing degree.

Hill scholarship is to support students studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) courses, encouraging them to pursue a career in one of these fields. Diana has been a long-time supporter of the students of Century College and the work of the Foundation.

Portrait of Don and Helen Kohler. To help reduce educational expenses for a student enrolled in Century College’s nursing program. This scholarship remains with the applicant while the student is in good standing in the Associate of Science in Nursing Program at Century College. In memory of the Kohlers.

Dr. Karl Gerber Leadership & Service

Portrait of Dr.Karl-Gerber Dr. Karl Gerber became president of Lakewood Community College in 1968 and completed his service in 1985. He provided the needed leadership to move the new, fledgling college into a highly regarded educational institution. This scholarship pays tribute to the history of Lakewood Community College and the effective leadership of Dr. Carl Gerber.

Gladys Dickey Teaching

Portrait of Gladys-Dickey To honor Gladys Dickey, a lifelong educator, by encouraging students to enter the field of education. Gladys Dickey was born in Iowa in 1888 and began her lifelong career as an elementary school teacher in 1912. She loved children and children’s literature - her enthusiasm for the stories of early American history was contagious. She touched so many lives and enriched them all, not only of her pupils but of her nephews and nieces, who hope that this scholarship will enable others to follow her example.

Iris Eaves and Shirley Jordon Scholarship

To provide a scholarship to support the educational goals of Century College students with financial need. Bill Eaves and Sherry Jordon established this scholarship in memory of their mothers, Iris W. Eaves and Shirley T. Jordon. Iris, born in 1931 in Georgia, loved history, travel, and nature. Shirley, born in 1922 in New York, left college to work in a factory during WW|| but remained intellectually curious throughout her life. Both women encouraged their children to read, study, and achieve academically.

Established by Yanmei Jiang and her family (husband Rongqing and children Zhen & Timothy Tu) in honor of her father, 蒋辰道, Jiang Chendao, a staunch believer in learning. He lived daily to its fullest, tirelessly pushing himself to “become a good person” through reading, reflection, and caring for others. An aficionado of Chinese classics, calligraphy, and gardening, he touched the lives of his children and grandchildren, who will never forget the cadence of his baritone voice when instilling daily life lessons.

Larry Litecky Legacy Teaching

Portrait of Larry-Litecky To encourage and support the educational goals of aspiring teachers. Dr. Larry Litecky served as president of Century College from 2000-2011.

Under his leadership, the campus experienced dynamic growth and change. New initiatives to support student success resulted in Century College becoming the first college in Minnesota selected for the national Achieving the Dream program. Dr. Litecky believed in the power of Century’s teachers. This scholarship supports the educational goals of those aspiring to teach at the postsecondary level.

This scholarship was established by Mark Vukelich’s wife and daughters in honor of his positive and encouraging nature, his generosity of spirit, and in memory of him and of his mother, Sophie “Dolla,” to provide a scholarship to a student with financial need who shows promise in their career and educational pursuits.

Mary Lou Mardaus Skramstad

To help a student who has been in foster care to succeed in college. This scholarship is a tribute to Mary Lou Mardaus Skramstad, who grew up in foster care and went on to be a dear friend and accomplished professional, making contributions to her community and family throughout her lifetime.

Portrait of the Pratt Nordstrom Family Paul Pratt and Marguerite Olson Pratt were farmers in the Red River Valley. They were enthusiastic lifelong learners. This scholarship was created by Charlotte Pratt Nordstrom, their daughter and dedicated counselor at Century College for more than 25 years. It demonstrates how, through a lifetime of service and saving, one couple’s remarkable generosity will continue to provide support and encouragement to future generations.

This scholarship was created by a Century College leader in honor of two long-time faculty at Century College, Judith Roy (History, Women & Gender Studies) and Bob Hathaway (English). The purpose of this scholarship is to support an outstanding student in their pursuit of academic excellence with a strong interest in either English or the Social Sciences.

Ron Ryan Jr. Memorial Law Enforcement

Portrait of Ron-Ryan-Jr To pay tribute to the legacy of Century Alumnus Ron Ryan Jr. by supporting the educational goals of students who are dedicated to community service through a career in law enforcement.

Rose Polga Bayuk Nursing

Portrait of Rose-Polga-Bayuk Rose was from the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota and graduated from the Kahler Hospital (now Mayo Clinic) School of Nursing as an RN in 1938. During WW2, Rose served overseas from 1942 to 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She was a ward charge nurse on U.S. Army Hospital Ship Thistle. In 1954, she moved with her husband to White Bear Lake, where he was the City Manager. Rose’s nursing career culminated with a position as an RN/Nursing Home Administrator in North St.

Paul. She served on a nursing advisory board at Lakewood in the late 1970s and had a lifelong interest in furthering educational opportunities for students to study nursing.

Rose had very strong leadership and organizational skills. Her motto in nursing and in life was “I serve others before I serve myself.” In June 2021, Rose was awarded the Silver Service Award Medallion by the National

WW2 Museum. She was the first nurse to receive this prestigious national award. Rose lived to be 105 years of age and was always physically active and engaged with people.
