Experience: Michelle Blesi is a Certified Medical Assistant with 14 years of industry experience, who worked in the family practice area for 10 years, emphasizing clinical and laboratory skills. Changing her focus to leadership, she worked as a lead in the Nursing/Lab department and as a Clinical Manager prior to moving into education. As a Program Director and Unlimited Full Time Faculty member in the Medical Assistant Department at Century College since 2001, Michelle enjoys bringing her career experience into the classroom and making a difference in students' lives. In addition to being Program Director, she teaches both Clinical and Laboratory courses, a Medical Assistant Refresher Course through CECT, and Administrative Procedures for Medical Assistants, both traditional and online. Additionally, she is the practicum coordinator and oversees the clinical externships for the program. Michelle's expertise in the subject matter has sought the attention of many medical assistant/allied health textbook publishers, which has resulted in the review of their content. Michelle has contributed to many Cengage initiatives as well as authoring a Medical Assisting textbook.
Teaching Approach: "Teaching provides me many opportunities for continual learning and growth and allows me the possibility to pass these opportunities on to my students. I am grateful to provide the opportunity to my students and love to do so in the following manner: to foster critical thinking; educate students on what it means to be an educated person in the allied health field; share my desire as an educator to assist students in reaching their fullest potential by providing a stellar education in the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains; be a guide for the student providing them with the tools on how to make their own discoveries; teach them how to get excited about what they can accomplish; absorb the diversity and uniqueness of each student and teach them how they can learn so much from each other and their individual experiences; follow CAAHEP curriculum, yet making it unique and exciting for the students, leaving them at the end of the class wanting more, and in anticipation for the next time we meet."
Education: Diploma in Medical Assisting and certification through the AAMA, Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Community Psychology, Metropolitan State University, TES (Teacher Education Series) courses in spring 2005 at the University of Minnesota (coursework included Introduction to Vocational Teaching, Course Development, Instructional Methods, Philosophy and Student Training and Assessment).
Notable Achievements: Minnesota State Excellence in Curriculum Programming Award 2016, The Academy for Leadership and Development 2014, Minnesota State Board of Trustees Outstanding Educator Award 2012, Golden Apple Award 2010, Century College Exemplary Faculty Member 2007

Portrait of Jessie Breyer-Peterson
Experience: Dr. Breyer-Peterson has a true passion for teaching psychology and educating people about mental health. She has been a full-time faculty member at Century College since 2011 and currently teaches General Psychology, Developmental Psychology: Lifespan, Abnormal Psychology, and Internship in Psychology. She is also a Licensed Psychologist, and has provided therapy in a variety of settings, including community mental health centers, hospitals, and the VAMC. Dr. Breyer-Peterson has published several research articles in peer-reviewed journals which have been cited over 200 times. Dr. Breyer-Peterson coordinates the Mental and Behavioral Health Worker certificate and psychology internship in addition to teaching. She is also the director of Century's Mental Health First Aid grant project, which provides free mental health training to students and employees.
Teaching Approach: "I truly love teaching and helping all of my students succeed! I believe that we learn best when we are actually 'doing something' with the material, so in my classes, you will have frequent opportunities to engage in active and experiential learning and learn from one another. Since there often isn't a 'right' answer in psychology, I also encourage students to think critically and scientifically as you learn new information. How does the information fit with your beliefs and experiences? Finally, I believe we can use what we learn in psychology to improve the lives of ourselves and others, so we often apply the information to real life so you can use what you learn immediately! I truly care about each of you, and strive to create an environment in my face-to-face and online courses where students feel they are understood, respected, and are comfortable seeking help. I am here to support you, encourage you, and help you succeed! Therefore, I frequently provide students with resources like a notes packet, study guide, and study tips to help you grow and develop as students. I love being a part of your academic journey and hope to see you in one of my classes!"
