Exploration of Forms is a public workshop series that centers embodiment, transformation, and creativity. All workshops are free for students. Guests are encouraged to make a donation of $5–20 at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
About this Workshop:
Never fixed in culture or time, Butoh remains a personal investigation. We strengthen trust in our bodies by developing energy-efficient motion and connectivity. Our clarity and stability prepare us to enter the chaotic stream of the subconscious. We can become wild. We can let go. We can enter an unknown world more readily when we trust our own being. Though Butoh originates in Japan, your dance springs from your culture, your background. A deeper understanding of yourself sets the stage for transformation. Becoming air, ocean, cloud, mountain… arises from the conditions that have fed you. We integrate improvisational training, imagistic prompts and physical precision to dance through our debris and clear skies. Our dance belongs to mystery.
