Like many adult learners, Cynthia Vang came to Century College to help advance her career. She’s in her first year at the College, working full time while earning her AAS degree in Business Management.

“I chose Century College because it’s close to home, and I heard great things about the College’s staff and faculty helping students,” Cynthia notes. “Also, Century College has great classes. I like them.”

She’s currently taking 6 classes, 2 of which are on a late-semester start date—another convenience that helps her juggle her busy school, work, and family life. “All of my classes are asynchronous (online), and that easily accommodates my work schedule,” she says.

Earning a Credential for Business

Cynthia works as a quality administrator at Harvey Vogel, a metal stamping/manufacturing firm in Woodbury, MN.  A hard worker, Cynthia wants to learn and understand all aspects of the business, and to do more in a manager role. While she works on quality, she also helps out in Processing and has helped out in Finance and Customer Service (front desk)—and she’s learning to do a little bit of everything.

Cynthia’s dream is to own her own business one day, and she knows that the skills she’s building in her career, combined with her degree in business management will help tie everything together and give her the credential that she needs and wants.

Resources for Student Success

As a first-generation student, Cynthia is also learning about the resources that the College offers for a successful educational experience. She worked with Rose Yang, one of the Tutors Linked to Classes in her English course, who helped her strengthen her writing skills. Cynthia started her family early, and is the mother of nine children. School took a temporary backseat while she has been busy raising her family and working.

In addition, she’s received financial aid, and is applying for scholarships. “I couldn’t do it without the help of Financial Aid,” she says.

“I highly recommend Century College for anyone who wants to attend college. It was pretty easy to get started and the advisors are great. I worked with Emily Hennes, Student Success Specialist, and she helped me to choose classes wisely, and create a plan. Also, working with Instructor Yanmei Jiang, who teaches English classes, is great!”
