June 06, 2023“In college, you find your niche, and you learn a lot. That’s what’s important. I’m excited about learning, and to see what’s next.”
Like many Century College students, Weston Freitag did not enjoy his high school years. During the pandemic, he decided to take a break and enjoyed a gap year between high school and college.
His mother works close to Century, and heard many good things about the College. Weston had been considering another 2-year college, but with the good word-of-mouth recommendations, and Century’s proximity to his home in Hudson, Wisconsin, he decided on Century.
Excelling at Century College
For Weston, Century College was the right choice. He found supportive and engaging professors, and soon excelled in his classes. He discovered that he is a strong learner, and found his motivation and discipline.
He dove into his courses, worked hard, and was invited to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In addition, Weston earned the 2023 Outstanding Student Award in his major field of study—Psychology.
“Getting the Outstanding Student Award felt really good, a huge win,” he says. “I didn’t do well in high school, but my college experience was completely different.”
He adds, “The Century College instructors were the biggest help. Every single one was wonderful and very supportive. They are focused on student success.”
His favorite Psychology professors are Dr. Kate Herold and Dr. Bimpe Diji. “Dr. Herold’s teaching style is engaging, and her Developmental Psychology classes are fun,” he notes. “Dr. Diji is supportive, extremely motivating, and is always there to help. I wasn’t strong in math before, but I got an A in her Psych Statistics class.”
Future Plans
Weston graduated this spring, but has a couple more online classes to finish. “I really enjoy taking summer online classes—it’s a great way to get ahead and definitely worth it. I’ve also taken online classes, such as math and chemistry, through the semester. It was easier for me to buckle down and focus, without the distractions of the classroom.”
This fall, he will attend the University of Minnesota, and will major in either Developmental Psychology or General Psychology.
Thanks to his Century College experiences, he’s looking forward to a bright future. “Century College is a really nice school, and the professors are really great. Get started at Century, and once you get going, you’ll find your niche!”
