“With Orthotics and Prosthetics, you’re not doing the same thing over and over again, says Century College student Justin Kloski. “There’s tons of opportunities, and it’s a challenge because you have to think critically.”

Justin has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Ball State University in Indiana.  He had previously worked in a clinical environment, but wanted to further his education and improve his skills. “I dove into Orthotics and Prosthetics,” he enthuses. “I can’t see myself doing anything else.”

Additionally, he has a passion for working with and helping people. As a cancer survivor, he has a lot of compassion for those who are amputees.  “I’ve gone down my own hard roads,” he says.

Expert Instruction

Justin chose Century College because he wanted to get a good, solid foundation, learn from the ground up, and he also wanted hands-on experiences.  Century College is a prerequisite for Concordia University’s Master’s program, and he’s taking classes concurrently in both programs.  With dual enrollment, he’s saving a year of classwork, and saving money, too.

“Century College’s Orthotics and Prosthetics instructors are previous or current practitioners, and they have real-world experiences and knowledge. They’ve been in the field for years, and they will teach you what you need to know,” Justin notes.

Future Plans

Justin did an internship at Limb Lab in Minneapolis, and he currently works there. “If you work for a smaller setting, you will be prepared, especially if you need to fabricate.  There are more opportunities and career options.

“Limb Lab is a unique facility. Their diversified patient population and use of modern Orthotics and Prosthetics devices allow me to be exposed to a wide realm of Orthotics and Prosthetics”.

Justin plans to be a practitioner in the O & P field.  He wants to evaluate patients, cast limbs, assess needs and demands. He looks forward to making clinical decisions about what is best for the patient and to working with the technicians, who build the prostheses.

“I’m so glad I chose Century College,” he adds. “I’m gaining valuable experience, while saving a significant amount of money.”
