Baseball Players Sign With NCAA Colleges

The 2016-17 Century College baseball program had 3 players sign National Letters of Intent to continue their career at NCAA Division II programs during the fall NCAA signing period.

Sophomores Zach Walz (St Cloud State), Josh Gaworski (Concordia St Paul), and Zach Rustad (Minnesota Crookston) signed national letters of intent to continue their baseball careers and are receiving baseball scholarships.  Gaworski and Rustad were major contributors to for the Wood Ducks as they finished 5th at the 2016 NJCAA World Series.  Zach Walz played his freshmen year at Southeastern CC (IA) before transferring to Century for the 2016-17 year.

Josh Gaworski is a RHP from Mounds View HS and was 8-0 with 3.02 ERA as a freshman in 2016.  In 59.2 innings, Gaworski struck out 92 and walked only 18.  He was named to the NJCAA All World Series team in 2016, and was also NJCAA All Region.  Zach Rustad is a LHP from Blaine HS and was 5-2 with a 4.57 ERA as a freshman in 2015.   Zach Walz is from Grand Forks (ND) HS and hit .333 at Southeastern CC in 2016.  Walz will also be the closer for the Wood Ducks in 2017 .

“We are very excited for these players to have the opportunity to move on the next level and play for some great programs,” stated Head Coach Dwight Kotila.  “They came to Century College with the goal of moving on to a top level university, and through their hard work, their goal was reached.” 

The NCAA early signing period is held in the fall (November), and also has a spring signing period in April.   “We have other sophomores who will be signing with NCAA schools in the spring as well”, stated Coach Kotila.

In the last 6 years, Century has now had over 50 players move on to NCAA D1, D2, and other four year colleges.
