May 08, 2015Colonel Matt Langer, from the Minnesota State Patrol, was recently named the Century College 2015 “Outstanding Alumnus of the Year” by the Century College Alumni Association Board of Directors. Colonel Langer was a 1997 Century College graduate, receiving an Associate in Science degree in Law Enforcement.
“Century College was the natural choice for me to pursue my goal of becoming a State Trooper because of the high-quality degree program, location, and affordability,” states Col. Langer.
Colonel Langer has worked as a Minnesota State Trooper since 1999 and he rose steadily in the State Patrol ranks. In January 2015, Colonel Langer was appointed Chief of the State Patrol.
“Colonel Langer serves as a wonderful example of someone with commitment and dedication to making Minnesota a better place to live,” shares Jill Greenhalgh, Century College Executive Director of the Foundation and Alumni Association. “We are honored that he attended Century College. It was privilege to have selected Colonel Langer as the Century College outstanding alumnus.”
Building upon the solid foundation he received from Century College, Col. Langer went on to Metropolitan State University to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Public and Nonprofit Administration in 2005.
Colonel Langer has also served as community faculty at Metropolitan State University in the College of Management and the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He is currently a member of adjunct faculty at Century College, teaching criminal justice courses for the past nine years. He has experience teaching leadership, public speaking, and consulting with various groups on strategic planning.
In his role as the Century College “Outstanding Alumnus of the Year”, Colonel Langer will address Century College’s 2015 graduates in the commencement exercises on May 15, 2015.
