On Thursday, February 22, Century College welcomed local middle and high school students to our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Showcase.   The schools/programs included: Educational Talent Search/TRiO Program (Farnsworth & Hazel Park Middle School), Humboldt Jr., AVID Program (Linwood-Monroe Middle School and Humboldt Jr.), Harmony Learning Center, 916/Northeast Metro, and Washington Technology Magnet.  

Following a welcome by Century College President Angelia Millander and the STEM Showcase leadership, the students went to various breakout sessions.  They visited classrooms and learned about a wide variety of educational, entertaining, and fun subjects, ranging from building skeletons, to “Synthetic Snot: Chemistry Goes to the Movies to Chromatography (used in crime scene investigations), to building an Internet. 

 

At lunch, a panel of Century College STEM grads discussed their careers.  The panel included  Jessica Johnson, Nursing student, St. Catherine University, Toby Lillibridge, Information Security Analyst, Thomson Reuters. Jenna Richardson, Research Scientist, 3M Corporate Research Materials Lab, Jennifer Reinhart Senior Process Development Engineer, Boston Scientific, and Kristi Livingston, Century College Cybersecurity, Virtualization & Forensics  (CVF) faculty.
