Century College EMT Student Kate Jahnke Given Life Saver Award

Century College EMT student Kate Jahnke recently received the Life Saver Award from Allina Health Emergency Medical Services, for helping to save the life of a patient in cardiac arrest.  Kate was on her first shift on her field internship with her Allina crew when the call came in.  Kate and the team were able to bring the patient back after being in PEA (Pulseless Electrical Activity), without a defibrilator.

Kate started in Century’s EMT program in August 2016, and received her EMT certification in December.  She is currently working on her Paramedic Science degree.  A single mother of 2, Kate works as a nutrition counselor in drug and treatment centers.  While working and raising her children, she has been able to maintain a 4.0 average throughout the year. 

“Saving a life is why you get into this line of work. You want to help people because it’s your calling, not for recognition–especially as a student. But standing up there with these heroes and to be counted as one of them was a tremendous honor. It was an incredibly memorable way to end the year,” said Kate.
