After working in the corporate banking sector for several years, Century College alum and Minnesota State Trooper Chang Her wanted to do something different with his life.  He was always interested in law enforcement, and decided to go into the field after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

“I wanted to help others when they needed it most.  I wanted to do something with my life that was meaningful and rewarding.  That’s when I decided to go into law enforcement.” Chang remembers. “I began doing my research and asking around to see which colleges were the most affordable, and had a law enforcement program with a good reputation.”

Chang decided on Century College because it was recommended more than any other community college.  A single father of two at the time, he was working full time and needed a college that would offer classes that would work around his busy schedule.

“I took all my courses on campus.  I didn’t even have a computer at home at the time, and spent a lot of time in the computer center and the library.” Chang said. “The program requirements were easy to understand and I knew exactly what I needed to get done to graduate. The instructors were excellent, and many of them have law enforcement backgrounds.”

Approaching his 10-year anniversary with the Minnesota State Patrol this year, Chang adds, “My law enforcement degree from Century College allowed me to be where I am at today, and to do what I was meant to do with my life.”

Chang also found that the diversity of Century’s student population created a great learning environment.  ”I met people from all walks of life, and met friends I still have today.” Chang said. “In fact, my oldest son attends Century College.  I am confident Century will help him with his career as well.”
