Century College faculty member Amy Fladeboe was one of five writers recently selected to receive a Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant for 2017.  The grant, administered by the Loft Literary Center, provides Minnesota writers with financial support and professional assistance to help further their careers.

Amy, who received her Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University - Mankato, teaches Creative Writing at Century College. She is currently working on her first novel, tentatively titled Boys Not Yet Men. The inspiration for her writing came from her service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Albania from 2008-10. “My Peace Corps experience was very influential in my writing, my teaching, and my world view,” Amy noted.  ”I have lived many different places but only a few of them really challenged my perception of where home is. Albania is one my homes now.”

Her advice for her Creative Writing students is simple: “Go everywhere and ask too many questions. This is how you learn and how you find stories, but more importantly, this is how you find your passion, your community, and your place to call home.”
