On Monday, September 18, 2017, hundreds of Century College students, alumni, employees, and members of the community celebrated the 50th anniversary of the College.

Attendees played games, enjoyed birthday cupcakes, and participated in a Proclamation Ceremony, announcing September 18 as "Century College Day". Mayors Jo Emerson, White Bear Lake, and Jud Marshall, Mahtomedi, were on hand to read the proclamations.

In addition to the mayors, Century College welcomed Victoria Reinhardt, 2010 Distinguished Alumna and Ramsey County Commissioner, who acted as emcee for the ceremony, and Dr. Devinder Malhotra, Minnesota State Chancellor, who spoke about Century College's history of transforming lives.

He cited over 3,400 nurses who have graduated from the College; the Fab Lab as the first in Minnesota; former College faculty, like Randy Fane, who attended Century College and then taught and eventually retired from the institution, and the work of those who keep the College running, like Kris Price. "It takes the work of all these people to keep the doors of opportunity open," he said.

Current Century College President Angelia Millender introduced Chancellor Malhotra. She acknowledged the significance of the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the past, to recognize and honor the people and experiences that have brought the College to this point in time. She thanked the past presidents present in the audience, including Carl Gerber, Neil Christenson, Larry Litecky, Ron Anderson, and Pat Opatz.

Millender noted that it's not through the work of individuals, but through the efforts of many, that Century has endured and grown over the years. "We are here today because of all of you," she told the audience. "We are Century College."

While the celebration centered on the proclamation ceremony, other activities ran through the course of the event. Student band Music for a Cause provided live music, while Student Life organized opportunities to win prizes. The College Library displayed artifacts from Century College's history, including yearbooks, letter jackets, and other memorabilia.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration event was the kick-off to a yearlong celebration. More events and activities honoring and celebrating transforming lives for 50 years will be held throughout the year.

These included the White Bear Lake Rotary STRIVE / Woodbury & Gunderson Family scholarship for $50,000, as well as the endowed scholarship gifts from Diana R.
