White Bear Lake, Minnesota, April 22, 2020 - Century College faculty members Dr. Jessie Breyer-Peterson, Jill Cadwell and Dr. Angela Coffee were each given 2020 Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence by Minnesota State.  The annual awards honor faculty who deliver an extraordinary education to students within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

Psychology faculty member Dr. Jessie Breyer-Peterson received the Educator of the Year award, one of seven given throughout the Minnesota State system. English faculty members Jill Cadwell and Dr. Angela Coffee each received the 2020 Minnesota State Outstanding Educators awards.

Dr. Breyer-Peterson was recognized for her instructional strategies, as well as her use of formal and informal assessment to inform teaching. Specifically, her use of assessment to create more equitable outcomes for underserved students and adjustments to her instruction for her current students. Dr. Breyer-Peterson has been teaching at Century College since 2011.  She earned her BA from the University of Minnesota and her MA and Psy D. degrees from the University of St. Thomas.

Jill Cadwell and Dr. Angela Coffee were recognized for their compassion for and dedication to their students’ success, and their contributions to the mission, vision, and values of the Century College community, and the standards of excellence set by Minnesota State.  Ms. Cadwell has been teaching at the College for eighteen years, and earned her BA and MA degrees at St. Cloud State.  Ms. Coffee has an MA in English and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Michigan University and has been teaching at Century College since 2012.

The awards acknowledge and reward exceptional professional accomplishment in teaching. Selection criteria includes teaching strategies and materials, content expertise and professional growth, assessment of student learning and performance, as well as service to students, the institution, and the Minnesota State system.
