About the Program

This Associate in Science degree provides you with a broad-based liberal arts education to help prepare you for the rigors of the criminal justice profession and the advancement of knowledge of the criminal justice system. The program curriculum includes criminal law and procedure, policing, investigation, corrections, and juvenile justice. Each course is designed to illustrate the social, legal, and ethical issues relevant to the criminal justice profession today. Completion of this Associate in Science degree provides a foundation allowing you to transfer to a four-year academic institution. We also offer certificates in focused areas of the Criminal Justice profession. Students will:

  • Serve your community as a professional in criminal law, homeland security, corrections, and counter-terrorism
  • Apply forensic investigative techniques to process crime scenes, collect evidence, and interrogate suspects
  • Analyze the causes and effects of criminal behavior and delinquency

You are required to complete 80 hours of criminal justice-related service learning to complete the AS degree. This requirement will be met upon completion of CJS 2081 & CJS 2085 with a grade of C or higher. You are advised not to enroll in both classes during the same semester.

  • Experience: Captain Hager has served in Law Enforcement for the past 22 years as an Officer, Detective, School Resource Officer, DARE Officer, Canine Handler, Narcotics Investigator, Sergeant and Captain for the State of North Dakota, the City of Lino Lakes, the University of Minnesota Police Department and, most recently, for the City of White Bear Lake. He has taught in higher education since 2015.
