About the Program
Theatre Transfer Pathway AFA Degree
The Theatre Transfer Pathway AFA degree offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an associate degree whose course credits will directly transfer to designated Theatre bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The entire curriculum has been carefully designed to guarantee junior-year status to students who have been admitted to one of the seven Minnesota State universities. There, students can complete their bachelor’s degree by earning 60 additional credits.
Minnesota State universities include: Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.
Transfer Pathway degrees may transfer to colleges and universities outside of the Minnesota State system, such as private and out-of-state schools. It is highly recommended that students interested in this possibility contact their intended transfer school, advisor/counselor, and program instructors for academic planning assistance.
The Century Theatre Arts Department prepares you to enter the exciting world of theatre and entertainment. Whether you want to work in the theatre as a career or a lifelong hobby, you can find the knowledge and learn the skills to follow that path.
The program offers you challenging, professional opportunities to learn about:
- The key areas of theatre and entertainment including acting, directing, design and technical, marketing and operations.
- The exciting art and craft of theatre, while working on a college degree.
Our courses are usually accepted as equivalency courses in most four-year colleges and universities. Introduction to Theatre (Theatre 1020) and Beginning Acting (Theatre 1031) are also part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
Students in the Theatre Arts Department at Century have opportunities to gain performing and technical experience through Century Theatre, the College's exciting Theatre production program sponsored by Student Life. Century Theatre produces the finest modern and historical works in the Theatre canon.
Angels in America, Talking Bones, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Cherry Orchard, are a sampling of several productions done each year which feature Century students acting, stage managing, and otherwise running the main stage shows.
Century students also write, direct, design and run the Century Student Showcase every year. Century features an intimate 240-seat house with industry standard: ETC state-of-the-art computer lighting equipment.
